Just after the first Snapdragon 660-powered smartphone launched in China, we have started seeing leaks of its predecessor. While there is no official information from Qualcomm about the Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform, we got to know few key details from the recent leaks. The Snapdragon 600-series chipsets can be found in the majority of the mid-range devices. With the Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform, Qualcomm for the first time introduced the custom Kryo cores in the Snapdragon 600-series.
Almost for a year, the Snapdragon 660 was exclusively made available to Chinese manufacturers. The Snapdragon 660 was debuted with the launch of OPPO R11 and R11 Plusin June 2017. The Nokia 7 Plus announced at the MWC 2018 is the first smartphone to feature Snapdragon 660 outside of China. While the Nokia 7 Plus is yet to go on sale, the latest leaks from China reveal the Snapdragon 670 to be available from second half of 2018.
Just like its predecessor, the new Snapdragon 670 will be initially exclusive to Chinese manufacturers. According to WinFuture, the Snapdragon 670 will be equipped with 2X high-performance Cortex-A75 based Kryo 300 Gold cores and 6X power-efficient Cortex-A55 based Kryo 300 Silver cores. For comparison, the Snapdragon 660 based on big.LITTLE configuration came with 4X high-performance cores and 4X power-efficient cores.
It will be accompanied by Adreno 615 GPU and supports both UFS 2.1 and eMMC 5.1 flash memory. We expect to see the Snapdragon 670 debuting with the upcoming OPPO or Vivo smartphones. As of now, we don’t have the exact information regarding the time frame for the launch of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform.
